Adjusted Dutch travel advice for Spain

Adjusted Dutch travel advice for Spain
22 Nov 2020

The Netherlands adjusted the travel advice for Spain on Friday 20 November. As far as the colors are concerned, nothing has changed because the entire Spanish mainland including the Balearic Islands are still on orange (only necessary travel) and for the Canary Islands still on yellow (note: safety risks). However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is now warning all travelers against the mandatory negative PCR test requirement that applies throughout Spain (including the Canary Islands) from Monday 23 November.

The corona virus is not yet under control in the Netherlands and many other countries. So stay at home as much as possible this winter. Do not make or book trips abroad until mid-January 2021, unless absolutely necessary.

From 23 November, Spain will make it compulsory to show a negative PCR test for travelers from the Netherlands who travel by plane or boat. This test must not be older than 72 hours. This means that it must be taken within 72 hours before departure. Unfortunately, there is currently no direct information available regarding minimum age and for the time being it is said that everyone will have to take the test regardless of age.

Travelers arriving by plane or boat must also be able to show (the QR code of) a completed "Health Control Form" upon arrival. These entry restrictions do not apply to travelers by car or train.

The color code for the Canary Islands is 'yellow' (note: safety risks). Spain has declared a state of emergency for all of Spain. The Spanish national and regional authorities can take measures to limit freedom of movement. There is a curfew throughout the country (from 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM), except for the Canary Islands.

For the Spanish mainland and the Balearic Islands, the color code 'orange' (only necessary travel) applies. After a stay in the 'orange' area, you will go into home quarantine for 10 days when you return to the Netherlands.
