The 'primavera' or spring has started again in Spain!
Finally the time has come and spring has finally started after months of waiting. In many places along the Mediterranean it was a strange winter with a lot of rain, wind, storm and hail. That will finally come to an end now that spring or in Spanish “primavera" starts again. We look ahead and predict more or less how spring will be in Spain.
March 20, spring will officially begin at 4:50 AM (3:50 AM in the Canary Islands). A period of the year that many people have been looking forward to and which has finally come. Spring will take exactly 92 days and 18 hours this year, a little over 3 months, before summer will start on June 20. Only 10 days later in the night of March 30 to 31, the clock is set an hour ahead to daylight saving time.
Fine and vera
In Spanish, spring is called "primavera" which can be divided into "prima" and "vera" which literally means "el buen tiempo" or good weather, one of the four seasons that, together with winter, summer and autumn, last a year to make. In Dutch, the word "spring" is an old derivation of "long" and refers to the lengthening of the days.
Many people love spring because it seems that everything comes back to life and spring is often seen as the best seasons together with autumn to visit the less busy Spain.

How is spring in Spain
Although many people think that spring is a beautiful and warm time of the year, that is not always true. In March, April and May (climatic spring), for example, the average temperature for Spain is 13.6 degrees, of course with peaks in certain places, but the average is not really high. In addition, there is normally a lot of precipitation with an average of 173 mm per square meter of rainwater. Although it is not the time of most storms, spring is the time when storms occur and there is often a lot of rainfall.
In addition, spring is one of the worst moments of the year for allergy sufferers. On the other hand, temperatures are slowly rising, everything is beginning to bloom and it is good to stay in Spain because the climate is nice and it is not as busy as in summer.
Spring day
In Spain we speak of a spring day or “día primaveral" when the temperature fluctuates around 20 degrees. These temperatures are most commonly seen along the Mediterranean Sea in spring days such as in parts of Catalonia, Comunidad Valenciana, Balearic Islands, Murcia and Andalusia. This is mainly measured along the coast, since the lake inland can often be quite fresh, even at night. Temperatures gradually rise from March 20 to June 21, after which summer takes over from spring.
Rain
That the sun will be present during the spring in Spain is one thing that is certain, but did you know that it can also rain a lot during the spring? On average, there is 173 mm of rain per square meter throughout Spain in the spring, but there are parts of the country where there is more rain and parts where there is almost no rainfall. For example, it is common for more rain to fall in the northwest of the country while less rain falls along the Mediterranean Sea, so the south and northeast of the country.
In general, the driest areas in the spring are the Canary Islands, the province of Almería and Murcia. Most storms in Spain are not noticeable in the spring but also not in the fall and winter but during the summer, strangely enough.
