The number of immigrants in Spain increased during 2018 to 6.75 million registered residents who were not born in Spain. Some of these residents have both Spanish and other nationality, so that the total number of residents without Spanish nationality came to 5,036,878 on 1 January 2019 (figures 2020 will only be announced later).

14.36% of the residents who are officially registered in the population registers were born abroad. Most immigrants in Spain can be found in the regions along the Mediterranean coast, in Madrid and in the Balearic and Canary Islands (blue color on the map). In other parts of the country, such as parts of Andalusia, Extremadura, Castile and León, Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, the number of foreigners is much lower.

In the South American countries in particular, there are people with two nationalities.
