21 Jan 2020

According to the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Spain has closed 2019 with a new record of foreign tourists. Despite the threat from Brexit and the enormous damage caused by the bankruptcy of Thomas Cook, 1.2% more international holidaymakers came to Spain, which rose to a total of 83.7 million, a new record.

Although the official figures from Frontur and the Spanish Bureau of Statistics (INE) still have to be announced (early February), the Minister of Tourism, among others, indicated that the past year ended with an increase of 1.2% in the number of foreign tourists, increasing that number to 83.7 million.

The nearly 84 million foreign tourists have spent 2.9% more in Spain, according to Minister Reyes Maroto, so that amount rose to 92.3 billion euros, also a new record.

2018 ended with a record of 82.6 million tourists, but that was surpassed in 2019 by 83.7 million foreign holidaymakers.

At the beginning of February the definitive figures will be announced by the Statistical Office (INE) and we can also publish the data regarding the numbers of British, German, French but also Dutch and Belgian tourists during 2019.

In 2018, 3,848,545 Dutch people and 2,500,278 Belgians came to Spain for their holidays. Until the end of November 2019, the number of Dutch tourists had fallen (compared to 2018) to 3,537,483. Among Belgian tourists, this light rose to 2,409,296 holidaymakers.
