News: Toll road at Alicante from Tuesday cheaper and free

From Tuesday, January 15, the ring roads of the city of Alicante will be free to use during the night hours and with a price reduction of an average of 30% during the day.

That is part of the plan of the central government to make the toll roads saved by the state cheaper so that more use is made of it.

By the end of last year, it became known that various ailing toll roads rescued by the Spanish government will become on average 30% cheaper from 15 January. This involves toll roads at Alicante, Madrid, Toledo, Murcia and Almería. Later it became known that these toll roads can be used free of charge between 00.00 and 06.00.

Alicante

In the case of Alicante it is the ring road or the circunvalación around the city, namely an alternative part of the AP-7 that is 33.2 km long and connects the towns of Campello with Monforte del Cid. This ring road was put into operation on December 11, 2007 to reduce traffic jams and congestion on the normal AP-7 and A-70.

The autopista de peaje de Circunvalación de Alicante has four toll gates, namely Busot-Muchamiel, Campello, San Vicente del Raspeig and Monforte del Cid. At these toll gates the toll will be on average 30% cheaper from Tuesday 15 January and even without costs between midnight and six o'clock in the morning. Drivers who pay with an electronic device (telepago) benefit from a bonus of 18% (10% for heavy vehicles).

Other toll roads

The tariff reductions, however, apply not only to the Alicante ring road but to several toll roads saved by the state. These are toll roads that have been taken over by the Spanish State since a bankruptcy at the time of the PP reign, and now fall under the Sociedad Estatal de Infraestructuras del Transporte Terrestre (Seittsa), which is responsible for maintenance and management.

The toll roads that will be cheaper from 15 January are:

AP-41 - between Madrid and Toledo

R2, R3, R4 and R5 - Madrid ring roads (radiales madrileñas)

AP-36 - between Ocaña and La Roda in Albacete)

M-12 - Madrid-Barajas airport

AP-7 - between Cartagena (Murcia) and Vera (Almería)
