News: Lowest number of unemployed since 10 years in Spain

The quarterly EPA survey / survey conducted by the Spanish Statistics Office shows that the number of unemployed has dropped by 164,100 in the past three months to 3,326,000 unemployed.

The number of workers rose by 183,900 people to 19,528,000 people, according to the Encuesta de Población Activa (EPA).

It is a survey of the active population in which thousands of people in Spain are asked about their working and living situation. This results in figures that are used by, among others, the European institutions and which in reality are more accurate than the data used by the Spanish government and are based on the unemployed and employed who are registered with the Social Security in Spain.

In this EPA survey, the figures for the third quarter of 2018 between July and September do not include the decline in jobs that traditionally takes place after the busy summer months.

During these months, the number of unemployed people dropped by 164,100 people and the number of workers rose by 183,900 people to a total of 3,326,000 unemployed and 19,528,000 workers.

The unemployment rate has come to the lowest of the last decade, namely 14.55%, while the percentage of workers rose to 58.7%.

The largest increases in workers during the third trimester were in the Balearic Islands (47,500 people), Catalonia (33,500 people) and the Canary Islands (22,700 people) corresponding to regions where tourism generates a lot of work in the summer months.
