News: Can you get a ticket if you are without petrol / diesel in Spain?
On the website Motor of the newspaper El Pais the question is asked if someone who is stopped without petrol or diesel on a Spanish road can get a ticket for it.
The answer is yes and even a very high of 200 euros. Not keeping an eye on the tank contents can therefore be an expensive joke.
As often with circumstances and the corresponding fines in the Spanish traffic law, there is not literally in the Reglamento General de Circulación that you can get a ticket for being without fuel. But it is being described that the police can give a ticket if they park wrongly or stand still if that can be a danger.
So if you do not have to get petrol / diesel on a road and the car has to be parked on the emergency lane or along the side of the road, that can be dangerous and can result in a penalty.
The jeopardy of yourself, other occupants of the car and other road users can be fetched. Standing still on the side of the road (often inevitable if one is stationary without fuel) can be seen as a dangerous situation and can be fined with a fine of 200 euros.
Article 90 of the Spanish traffic law states: 'la parada o el estacionamiento de un vehiculo en vias interurbanas debera efectuarse siempre fuera de la calzada, and el lado derecho de ésta y dejando libre la parte transitable del arcen'. The emergency lane or standing still next to the road may only be used in the event of a breakdown or an accident if one is stationary without fuel.
In addition, keeping the fuel tank is also important for the safety of driving. If the engine suddenly comes to a standstill due to lack of petrol / diesel also stops the power steering, the brakes and it is more difficult for a motorist to stop a vehicle, according to the article
