News: Michelin Guide Belgium and Luxembourg 2018

The new Michelin Guide Luxembourg and Luxembourg 2018 has been presented, this year there are no new three Michelin stars, three restaurants get their second star and 14 receive their first Michelin star.

The results are especially poor for Luxembourg, where only one restaurant has managed to win a star.

Yesterday the Michelin Guide Belgium and Luxembourg 2018 was presented, it is the 62nd edition of the publication that reviews a total of 1,416 establishments of which 1,088 are restaurants, of which 144 have Michelin stars. In the category three stars there is no news, the Restaurant Hertog Jan (Bruges) of the chef Gert de Mangeleer and the Restaurant Hof van Cleve (Kruishoutem) of the chef Peter Goossens, with this edition are already five consecutive years in which no other Restaurant manages to achieve maximum distinction.

In the category of two Michelin stars there are new features, three new establishments have been included, Chef Michael Vrijmoed's Vrijmoed Restaurant in Ghent, Chef Ralf Berendsen's La Source Restaurant in Lanaken and Chef Boury's Boury Restaurant in Roeselare. three establishments are located in Belgium.

The three restaurants mentioned are in addition to the 20 present in this category, in Belgium: Bob-Bon, Le Chalet de la Forêt, Comme Chez Soi, Sea Grill, The Villa in the Sky, The Jane, 't Zilte, Nuance, Hostellerie St -Nicolas, La Durée, Bartholomeus, Slagmolen, Hostellerie Le Fox, Pastorale, De Jonkman, L'Eau Vive, d'Eugénie à Emilie, Château du Mylord and L'Air du Temps. In Luxembourg there is only one establishment with two Michelin stars, the Mosconi Restaurant of chef Ilario Mosconi, which climbed last year. The negative note is the loss of the two stars of the restaurant Aan Tafel bij Luc Bellings by closing, since its chef Luc Bellings, wanted to start a new business more calm and without the stress of the stars.

It must be said that the International Director of Michelin Guides, Michael Ellis, has commented that the results are positive and show the good rhythm of the cooking of both countries, since in most cases the stars have been consolidated. He explained that this is not an award that is given for life, but every year must be rewarded, demonstrating that quality and excellence are still present in the establishments.

In the category of a Michelin star there are also novelties, 14 restaurants have managed to get their first star, in Belgium: L'Écailler du Palais Royal, The Butcher's son, Dôme, Zet'Joe by Geert Van Hecke, Chambre Séparée, OAK, De Vork van Luc Bellings, M-Bistro, Carcasse, Goffin, Julie Brasserie, Altermezzo and Bistro Racine. Now in Belgium we can find a total of 108 restaurants in this category. In Luxembourg, only one establishment has managed to obtain a star, the Fani Restaurant, so now the country has 11 establishments in this category.

The negative note is the output of this category, either by suppression of the star or by closure, of 12 restaurants, all of them from Belgium: Bruneau, WY by Bart de Pooter, L'épicerie du Cirque, De Tuinkamer, Kasteel Diependael, Apriori , Ten Bogaerde, Danny, A'Qi, Bistro Margaux, La Bergerie and Cuisinémoi.
