Costa Calida, the forgotten coast of Spain
Everyone knows the Costa Brava, Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol probably but who has heard of the Costa Calida? Of course, the Dutch and Belgians are sometimes or often there know what we're talking about here, but perhaps there are many readers who have no idea that it exists coast. Literally, the name means “warm coast" and that is true because of its location also pretty much.
The Costa Calida is one of the Spanish Costas located in the Murcia region. This Costa is located in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula (Spain so) to the Mediterranean Sea and is in the north of the Costa Blanca (Valencian) and in the south of the Costa de Almeria (Andalusia). The most important place in this coast is the port city of Cartagena. The regional capital of Murcia is just lying in the interior of the state.
The province of Murcia has a coastline of about 250 kilometers long consisting of narrow inlets and beaches with rocks. Here is also a as it seems a geographical accident, called La Manga. This is a narrow strip of land, intersected by several channels and openings, which closes the Mar Menor lagoon from the Mediterranean. This lansdstrook is largely unfortunately completely built (see photo below). The northern coastal towns of the Costa Calida is San Pedro de Pinatar and San Javier, which also provides the regional airport. The southern coastal city is more familiar (because, inter alia, the carnival) Águilas.

The bulk of the Costa Calida, or warm coast is very rugged and thus not as overwhelmed by tourism as for instance the nearby Costa Blanca. The most densely populated area is located around the Mar Menor and around the larger city of Cartagena.
The coastal region of Murcia offers on one side unprotected beaches and wild sea on the other narrow inlets with palm trees and calm waters. On the coast is also the county district of Cartagena, which includes the following major sites: Cartagena, La Unión, Los Alcázares, San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier, Torre Pacheco, Fuente Álamo and Mazarrón. Further south, the county district Lorca places: Águilas and Puerto Lumbreras.
Airport
The approach harbor for the Costa Calida and the whole region of Murcia's San Javier airport, originally a military airport some years doing service for civil use. It is engaged in the construction of a new airport or actually already completed, but by the bureaucracy the Corvera airport can still be used. Besides the airport of Murcia residents and visitors can also use the nearby airport Alicante-Elche where you can also find more routes and destinations.
