Two negative test results and home quarantine in the Netherlands after a visit to Spain.
22 Jan 2021

From Saturday 23 January 2021, travelers traveling to the Netherlands from the Spanish mainland, the Balearic Islands and Canary Islands must also show 2 negative test results and must go into home quarantine for 10 days after returning home. This applies to travelers from all high risk areas, including Spain.

Traveling from Spain to the Netherlands is made more difficult again by the new requirements of the Dutch government to enter the country. These new corona measures were announced on January 21 because travelers from high-risk areas pose a risk of the import and spread of the corona virus. We will list a few things.

Rapid test

From January 23, 2021, the mandatory negative fast test result will apply to all travelers arriving by plane or ferry. This does NOT apply to travelers who travel to the Netherlands with their own transport such as car and camper.

The negative test result must be in English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish or Dutch. A translation of a test result is allowed if it has an original signature or stamp of the doctor or institution that administered the test.

The document is checked on 5 points:

Type of corona test: this must be a rapid test (antigen or LAMP test).

Test result: Must be negative for SARS-CoV-2 (or not detected).

First and last name: according to the passport.

Date and time of taking the test: the test is up to 4 hours old when boarding the aircraft or ferry. For transport employees, the test is a maximum of 24 hours old when boarding the ferry.

The test result has a logo or hallmark of an institution or doctor.

The test result may be shown on paper as well as digitally.

PCR test

Since December 29, 2020, it is mandatory to show the negative test results of a PCR test in order to travel to the Netherlands. This PCR test result must meet certain conditions. Showing the negative test result is mandatory for all travelers from high-risk areas. Exceptions apply for some people.

The negative test result must be in English, German, French, Spanish or Dutch. A translation of a test result is allowed if it has an original signature or stamp of the doctor or institution that administered the test.

The document is checked on 5 points:

Type of test: This must be a molecular PCR test and a test for Sars-Cov-2 / COVID-19.

Test result: must be negative (or not detected).

First and last name: according to the passport.

Date and time of taking the test: The test is a maximum of 72 hours old upon arrival in the Netherlands.

Details of the institute or laboratory that administered the test.

If you are traveling from within the EU / Schengen, you only need to be able to show the test result, if you are traveling from outside the EU / Schengen, you also need a completed, signed and printed negative test statement.

NOTE: Are you delayed through no fault of your own? Then the test may be a maximum of 96 hours old upon arrival in the Netherlands. Then you get 24 hours extra. You must then be able to prove that the negative test result expired due to a delay through no fault of your own.
