News: Restaurant owner Valencia demands 660,000 euros from Tripadvisor
The catering company Recaba Inversiones Turísticas claims compensation from the Tripadvisor assessment website of 660,000 euros for false messages that were posted as reviews on the website and that were not removed by the company.
Recaba Inversiones Turísticas owns the Panorama and Marine Beach Club restaurants in Valencia and they have dared to take legal action against the multinacional Tripadvisor.
The Valencian company demands compensation of 660,000 euros for including the two restaurants on the assessment platform without permission and for allowing and not removing false messages from noteworthy profiles.
Despite evidence that the company was able to provide that the profiles were false, Tripadvisor did not remove them, so that negative reactions and reviews were written such as that the restaurants committed fraud with the Social Security, that there were no good working conditions and that eating is more like poison than normal food.
Last week this lawsuit was brought to court in Barcelona, which is the first time that a Spanish company has taken Tripadvisor to court. According to Tripadvisor, both companies and users can create profiles on the platform where everything is checked via a certain algorithm.
Tripadvisor says that companies ultimately have the last word where messages that are seen as fake and fake can be deleted by indicating this. However, the restaurants indicate that they do not want anything to do with Tripadvisor and that they do not want their companies to appear on the platform.
Tripadvisor also says that they are not allowed to randomly delete profiles without proof of fraud and false profiles. Because the essence of Tripadvisor is that both good and bad reviews have a place so that consumers know where they stand when they enter a business.
The judge has not yet ruled.
