News: Every tourist who visited Spain in July spent on average 139 euros a day, 6% more
In July, more tourists came to Spain than ever in the history of Spain: 10.5 million foreign visitors in a single month.
But, besides being more, they spent more money on their vacations. The average expenditure per tourist was 1,132 euros, with an annual increase of 5.6%. Meanwhile, the average daily expenditure grows 6%, to 139 euros, according to data released today by the National Institute of Statistics.
The total expenditure made by tourists was 11,902 million euros, an increase of 16.3% compared to the same month of 2016. That is to say: it increased its outlay more than its arrivals. It does not necessarily mean that all expenditure is income for Spain, since this official survey includes all the money that a traveler destines to his vacation from leaving home until he returns. That is: also the plane ticket and the taxi to the airport, for example. But all the items go up, from the expense in lodging to the restaurants.
The average travel time of international tourists is 8.2 days, with a slight variation compared to July 2016.
If you analyze the data by nationalities, among the main customers of Spain the most spend on their trips are the Nordic, with 1,255 euros per trip on average (0.8% more), followed by the Germans, with 1,082 euros ( 5.6% more) and the British, with 1,013 (and a decrease of 0.1%). The arrivals from the rest of the world (a section that includes, among others, the countries of Latin America and Asia), spend on average 1,429 euros and increase the average. In part, because from outside Europe the flights are more expensive and, in general, the longer trips.
By destination, spending for each trip grows in almost all communities, apart from Madrid. Andalusia stands out, where average vacations represent a disbursement of 1,183 euros per traveler (12.8% more) and Baleares, with 1,174 euros (6.9% more). In Madrid it fell by 4.4%, to 1,470 euros, although overall, thanks to the increase in the number of tourists, this territory receives 9.8% more spending (868 million euros).
By destination of the expenditure, only the trips in tourist package (with everything organized from the origin) reduce the global disbursement, with 2,444 million euros, a 3.8% more. Meanwhile, the transportation expenses of the 10.5 million foreigners who traveled to Spain in July totaled 2,376 million (28.2% more); to housing, 1,906 million euros (27.5% more); and the amount destined to eat or dinner rose to 1,850 million (17.7% more).
