The summer has started in Spain and so there are more jobs, which is reflected in the unemployment figures.

In May the number of unemployed fell by 84,075 to slightly more than 3 million unemployed, the lowest figure since 2008. The good news is that the number of working people has risen to 19,442,113 which is the highest number in years in a month of May .

According to data from the Público de Empleo Estatal (SEPE) Service, the number of unemployed in the month of May fell by 84,075. As a result, the total number of unemployed in Spain is 3,079,491, which is the lowest number in the past 10 years.

As can be expected now that the tourist season has started in most places in Spain, the number of jobs in the service sector (including tourism and hospitality) has increased and unemployment has fallen by 54,762 people. In construction, the number of unemployed fell by 9,040 people, in the industrial sector by 8,085 people and in agriculture by 7,864 people.

The number of unemployed fell most in the tourist regions such as Andalusia with -17,981 people, Catalonia with -10,507 people and the Comunidad Valenciana with -8,744 people.

Unfortunately, the number of temporary contracts (contratos temporales) is still many times higher than permanent contracts (indefinidos), namely 1,891,580 temporary contracts (92%) and 184,161 permanent contracts. In addition, one of the three contracts is only for a few hours a day or even a week.
