News: Spain is officially the healthiest country in the world
26 Feb 2019

While articles are regularly published about rising overweight in Spain, that the Spaniards are eating more and more fast food instead of the Mediterranean diet and that less and less olive oil is used and replaces this for unhealthy sunflower oil, according to Bloomberg Spain the healthiest country in the world.

Spain has pushed Italy off the throne and took first place on the list of 169 researched countries. Spain is ranked number one on the list of the Bloomberg Healthiest Country Index 2019 by the American news agency Bloomberg.

In this research several other research results are compared and added together, such as that of the World Health Organization, the United Nations and the World Bank. In doing so, account is taken of health risks such as tobacco use, obesity, clean water, sanitary and mental health and the life expectancy of the residents.

Healthiest

In 2019, Spain is therefore in first place with which the country has risen no less than 5 places from the 6th place in 2017. Spain has thrown Italy off the throne as that land was in 1st place in 2017 but now has dropped to the 2nd place.

The Netherlands also dropped two places from the 13th place in 2017 to the 15th place in 2019. With Belgium it is apparently even worse as that country also dropped 2 points from the 26th place to the 28th place.

Life expectancy

As we wrote before, Spain has one of the highest life expectancies in the world, believing that Spain will take first place worldwide from Japan in the year 2040. In that year, Spaniards become 85.8 years old while the Japanese then 85.7 year will live (on average of course).

At the moment, Spain with a life expectancy of 82.9 years is still in 4th place (out of 195 countries) behind Japan, Switzerland and Singapore.
