Natural waterfalls near Alicante!

Natural waterfalls near Alicante!
7 Apr 2020

The province of Alicante in the Valencian Community offers its visitors plenty of opportunities to discover and we have been lucky enough to discover many already. We have previously written about Benidorm, a very touristic city in Alicante, also known as The New York city of the Mediterranean coast, due to the hotel industry, beaches and skyscrapers. This city has the tallest buildings per capita in the world and is a very beautiful destination to choose when looking for beautiful and long beaches, large resorts or a non-stop party. But if you choose to go to Benidorm, you should know that there is more than that, just a few kilometers from the city. You could find what looks like a movie setting, more specifically, one of the Jurassic Park movie settings, surrounded by beautiful and magical landscapes. In this story we are going to tell you about one of these exact places I recently visited, in the middle of nature, called Fuentes de Algar!

The Algar River (meaning "cave" in Arabic) has created spectacular waterfalls here, and several springs spring from the surrounding rocks. Swimming in these pools really feels like a luxury, because the crystal clear water is also known as a "source of health". The Algar waterfalls are just 15 km from Benidorm and 3 km from the center of Callosa d'en Sarrià (the nearest village), so you can find them relatively easily. This incredible natural area is also suitable for families, and there are plenty of amenities in the area such as parking, toilets, first aid, Arboretum, picnic areas and camping. I have to add the Dino Park Algar to this, where the little ones can have a great time. You will be amazed by the beautiful views, the careful preservation and the enormous ecological wealth since Fuentes de Algar was declared a 'Wetland' by the Valencian government by the Valencian government.

One of the best things to do when you get there is to take a 1.5 kilometer paradise route and find a quiet place to meditate, go for a swim and eat something while enjoying this beautiful area. While there are plenty of restaurants around the waterfalls in the Algarve, I recommend bringing your own food as I really believe food tastes better when you're out in nature. The route is very pleasant and easy, and there are several shady spots. You need appropriate footwear to avoid hurting your feet on the stones, especially in the water. The ideal is to wear comfortable walking shoes and, as an alternative to swimming or paddling in the water.

A dip in the Algar Waterfalls in warm weather can be a good therapy, especially because of the excellent temperature of the clean, crystal clear water (although one can find the water a bit cold). Algar Waterfalls is the perfect alternative to escape Benidorm, but I also recommend you visit Guadalest and its castle, a short distance from the Algar Waterfalls and considered one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. Find the perfect spot in this magical area, swim in the crystal clear waters and feel at one with nature in the Algarvean waterfalls.

Enjoy!
