Summer weather coming with temperatures of 30 degrees in Spain!
9 Mar 2020

The spring does not officially start until Friday, March 20, but after a dry and warm February month, it seems that from this week on it will be extra warm on the Spanish mainland and the Balearic Islands. The Spanish weather forecast predicts that it will become warmer than normal, particularly along the Mediterranean Sea but also in the interior of Spain, with mercury rising to 30 degrees in some places.

Spring (primavera) officially starts on Friday March 20 at 4.49 a.m. but it seemed that in recent weeks and also the coming week, spring / summer had already begun with much too high (but pleasantly tasty) temperatures. The February month has already entered the history books as an extremely hot and dry month and March has also started warmer than normal.

Rubén del Campo is the spokesperson for the Spanish weather service Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (Aemet) and regularly posts his predictions on Twitter. This time he says that a hot period is coming, which means that in some places the mercury can rise to 30 degrees or more on the Spanish mainland and on the Balearic Islands.

Temperatures rise gradually from Monday to reach the peak on Wednesday or Thursday with high summer temperatures. This not only applies to the regions along the Mediterranean such as Catalonia, Valencia region, Murcia, Balearic Islands and Andalusia, but also to Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid region, the middle and south of Aragón, Extremadura and Castile and León.

In the north and north-west of Spain there is a chance of a lot of wind and there is cloud cover but no rain is expected. In recent days it has snowed in the higher parts of the Pyrenees and Picos de Europa, but it is not expected that it will snow now.

In the Canary Islands, however, there is again a chance of the calima sand storm, although that will be much less intense than at the beginning of February. The temperatures will rise as a result, but that is quite normal for the Canary Islands around this time of the year.
