News: Things that change when you live in Spain
19 Sep 2018

I do not think about it daily, but living in Spain has really changed me.

As a human being, as a Dutchman and as a person. Wow, suddenly it sounds very deep, but the funny thing is that you do not even realize it. It sneaks slowly. Often, you only realize this when, for example, you meet your friends and family in the Netherlands or Belgium once again. "You are different", they will say. But otherwise, of course, it is not necessarily negative. On the contrary, the things that change when you live in Spain are, if you ask me, very positive! In fact, it is better to say that you will never be the person again before emigration. Curious about what I mean by that? Read soon!

You will live more relaxed

A common reason to migrate is that people are looking for a more relaxed life. And that is exactly what Spain does for you! Actually, you will live much more relaxed when you live on an island so Spanish or in the peninsula. Let it be the magical elaboration of the island, or the fact that society is different. I do not dare to say what the price is about. Life is much more relaxed and so: you also relax more.

Your language knot is getting bigger

You will find that if you are not good enough in Spanish, you should rely primarily on the English language at first. And once you have activated your language button, the rest will go automatically. From German and French to Scandinavian languages: almost all languages are spoken in Spain. Especially when you live or work in a tourist area, you can barely ignore it. And the best part is that at some point you will also start thinking in other languages. The sad thing is that his Dutch language is deteriorating slightly. Then, suddenly you realize: "how do you say this again in Dutch?". But hey, that's a concern for later

You get an international circle of friends

Over time, you will notice that you are in contact with more and more people of other nationalities. When you initially work mainly with Dutch and Belgians, you find more and more nice people with a different nationality and a different story. Learn about other cultures, customs and customs. Very good! Not only does he get more information about how other people think, he also becomes more open-minded. Nothing is more abnormal, strange or crazy. You have all seen and experienced before. And who knows, I could even inspire you to go on vacation to a country that would normally never visit you!

You become less materialistic

Things are just things. And when you migrate to Spain you will notice that you have less and less need for things. The sun, the sea, the beach, etc. It's all free! Where people in the Netherlands and Belgium look at what kind of car, house and television they have, that does not matter in Spain. And you know: things and other materialistic things are not as important as memories and experiences! Because of this, you will also realize that things are not that important at all. You learn to draw your own plan

Migrating is quite spicy. It is not for everyone. But the good thing about this is that you made this step alone. You have drawn your own plan. Maybe even against all the advice of your environment! And that was a change in the base. You have freed yourself from your previous life and you left that which is familiar. Learn to draw your own plan, regardless of the opinion others have about it.

You go on vacation to your own country

A frequent question for emigrants: "But where are you going to go on vacation?" Well, in my own country! Trips to the Netherlands to visit family and friends that I really do not see as holidays. Then you are constantly in the back to see everything and everyone again. And you usually come back exhausted too
