News: First half year 2018 closed with more inhabitants in Spain

According to the recent figures from the Spanish Bureau of Statistics (INE), the number of inhabitants in Spain increased by 74,591 persons during the first half of 2018.

At the moment Spain has 46.733.038 inhabitants of which 42.069.038 Spaniards and 4.663.726 foreigners.

On July 1, Spain had 46,733,038 inhabitants, which is 74,591 more than on January 1, 2018. However, the number of Spaniards has fallen by 26,173 people (-66,654 born in Spain and +40,481 born abroad) while the number of foreigners with 100,764 persons has increased (+16,002 born in Spain and +84,762 born abroad).

Spain is currently dealing with a negative vegetative balance of 46,590 people because more people died than were born, namely 226,384 deceased and 179,794 births.

Migration

When looking at immigrants and emigrants, it is striking that there is a positive figure of 121,564. This means that 287,882 people came to Spain to live there while 166,318 people left.

Of the number of immigrants, 248,716 had foreign nationality and 39,166 had Spanish nationality. Of the number of emigrants, 125,462 had foreign nationality and 40,856 had Spanish nationality.

The largest group of immigrants were the Moroccans (25,739 people) followed by Colombians (23,454) and Venezuelans (20,775). The largest group of emigrants were the Romanians (19,946 persons) followed by the British (13,510) and Moroccans (11,249).

40,856 Spaniards went abroad with the largest group going to Great Britain (8,879 people) followed by France (4,766) and the United States (3,597).
