News: How much alcohol can you drive in Spain? The police give an explanation!
The holidays are back on the doorstep and there are many company parties and dinners, family gatherings and parties and many more activities where people come together to talk, dance, party, eat and drink.
Exactly the latter is still a big problem when one has to crawl behind the wheel and one regularly with a little too much alcohol in the stomach and in the blood will drive, something that in Spain still far too much happened with all its consequences. To give a little more clarity, the Guardia Civil has placed the following schedule on Twitter.
Alcohol and motoring is never a good combination but unfortunately, those who drink alcohol can not often leave their car and take a taxi home to not endanger themselves and other road users.
With the coming holidays in the offing, however, it is often difficult to set your own limits and to say to everyone that you can drink something and that you can drive afterwards, the Guardia Civil has placed the following schedule on their Twitter account, a message that was again shared by Auto Bild España.
From this the following can be made:
Drivers of an engine or a car may have 0.5 per mille alcohol in their blood.
Drivers of trucks and new drivers may only have 0.3 per mille alcohol in their blood during the first 2 years of their driving license.
The schedule then briefly states what people are allowed to drink to stay below the limit.
For example, male motor and car drivers of 70 kg can drink:
2 pints of beer
2.5 glasses of wine
Drink 2 glasses of whiskey
For female motor and car drivers of 60 kg this is:
2 pints of beer
2 glasses of wine
Drink 2 glasses of whiskey
Male new car and truck drivers may drink the following:
1 pint of beer
1.5 glasses of wine
Drink 1 glass of whiskey
Female new car and truck drivers may drink:
0.5-1 pint of beer
1 glass of wine
Drink 0.5-1 glass of whiskey
The fact that there is a difference between men and women has to do with the construction of the body where men can drink a little more than the women, something that is different from person to person, of course.
So, take it easy with the holidays, do not drink too much and if you do, do not step on the motor or behind the wheel of your car but let yourself be taken home, take a taxi or walk if possible. Incidentally, you can also be fined in Spain if you walk drunk across the street and cause problems or show dangerous behavior.
Drunken bicycles can also be touted in Spain because you participate in traffic and in most cases you just have to cycle on the street, at least in the absence of special bike paths.
