News: Sale of senior travel IMSERSO starts again in Spain

In this case it concerns the special Spanish publicly funded package holidays and various foreign destinations for residents in Spain between 55 (for widow / widower) and 65 (pensioners) years and older.

A total of one million seats will be offered for the IMSERSO season 2018/2019, involving more than 300 hotels in Spain. However, the sale does not start in the whole of Spain but takes place in parts, depending on where one lives and / or is registered in the population register.

Firstly, the trips to the inhabitants of Asturias, Catalonia, Galicia, La Rioja and the Basque Country will be offered on 14, 15 and 17 September followed by the sale in Andalusia, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Comunidad Valenciana and Navarre on 17, 18 and 19 September and then the inhabitants of Aragon, Castilla y León, Ceuta, Extremadura and the Comunidad de Madrid on 19, 20 and 21 September.

The IMSERSO voyages are mainly offered by two organizations, namely Mundosenior with the trips to the Spanish coastal towns and the mainland of the Spanish mainland and Mundiplan that offers trips to the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands.

What is IMSERSO

IMSERSO is the abbreviation of the Instituto de Mayores and SERvicios SOciales and its senior travel is subsidized by the Spanish government. This is partly done in order to offer the elderly in Spain an opportunity for an affordable holiday in (usually) their own country, but also to keep the seniors active and to promote the employment in tourism in low season.

The IMSERSO is about fully catered trips in mainly Spain but also abroad. These trips are much cheaper than normal package holidays in Spain and consist of transport, hotel with full board, excursions (sometimes at an additional cost), insurance and travel assistance.
